An accomplished jazz composer and arranger, Ryan Middagh has received numerous commissions from collegiate jazz ensembles, professional jazz artists, and classical artists and ensembles. His client list includes Jeff Coffin (saxophonist of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones and Dave Matthews Band), Michael Jeffery Stevens (Memphis based pianist), Tom Giampietro (drummer and educator), and Robert Washut (composer, arranger, and educator). His music has been featured at the International Jazz Composers Symposium, been recorded by professional and collegiate ensembles, and several of his works are published by UNC Jazz Press (Greeley, Colorado).

In 2010 Middagh led his own jazz octet and released the album “To Somewhere and Back Again" (currently available on iTunes) featuring his original compositions and arrangements. In Spring 2013 he will be releasing a new album entitled “Colorado Brew". From 2009-2011 Middagh performed with the Nashville Jazz Orchestra, where he played with Robby Ameen, Luisito Quintero, Lalo Davila, and Rod McGaha and he is a founding member of the Tennessee Jazz Collective. Middagh has been employed as a saxophonist by Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruise Lines.

Middagh holds a Bachelor of Music Education with an emphasis in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls, Iowa), and a Master of Arts in Jazz Studies from Middle Tennessee State University (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) where he received the Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies award. He is currently a doctoral student at University of Northern Colorado (Greeley, Colorado).
